On a Camping Trip
Recently in our Saturday morning Kinder class we started a theme of camping, based around the Potato Pal's, On a Camping Trip.

In the Evening
Last Saturday, in our Kinder class, we started the final book in the Potato Pals level 1 series. Here's a video of the song so you can practice at home.
Just need to find six spare dogs so we can do the 'walk the dog' action....

S-A-N-T-A
We started our Christmas lessons on Saturday. First song of the season was the S-A-N-T-A a festive variation from Super Simple Songs of the B-I-N-G-O song.

We had a lot of fun in Saturday's Kinder class (年中～年長のクラス ) recreating scenes from the Potato Pals book, At the Store.
In the Evening
Today in our Kinder class we introduced the In the Evening song....from the Potato Pals series.

Body Part Dice
Towards the end of last year, when we were learning body part vocabulary in our Kinder Classes, I came up with the idea of using a dice to introduce some fun to the vocab learning.
I'm not sure what was more fun, rolling the dice and saying the body part name, or the children laughing while I was trying to draw on the dice!

Gingerbread People
Tried this fun craft in our kinder class on Saturday. We are currently learning body vocabulary and while the Head Shoulders Knees and Toes song works great, I really struggle to get the children to remember 'arms' and 'legs'.
Hopefully the gingerbread people (not men as I think they all made girls!) will reinforce their learning.
Odd Couple
Something to brighten up your Tuesday. The children in our Saturday Kinder class (キンダークラス) created this odd couple on the school's whiteboard.
A combination of marker pens and cut-outs from an old Apricot Learning World activity pack gave us a load of laughs, and hopefully cemented some of the body vocabulary.
ビデオサポート
Over the weekend I added a ビデオサポート page to the englishpool website. As mentioned in earlier posts, this year we are using the Happy Valley textbooks in our young learner classes, and the folks at Happy Valley have produced a plethora of videos to support the work done in the classroom. I'd like the students, or their parents, to able to easily access the relevant video easily. We already have our own englishpool YouTube channel with playlists for スプラウツ and キンダー, so with the help of the nx-YouTubeBox module from NX-DESIGNS, adding these playlists to the site was a breeze.

In the Aquarium
This week the Kinder classes have started learning all about the sea animals that live at the aquarium. Join Kinka and Pinka as they take a trip to see the dolphins, penguins, whales, sharks and seahorses.

Let's go to the Beach
In Unit 2 of Happy Valley level 2 our Kinder children are practising the names of places around town, such as supermarket, restaurant, hospital etc.
Visualising a map at this young age is maybe a little difficult, so I made these folding tent cards which we can use with an old Ikea playmat.
Needless to say it's been an instant hit with our students, encouraging them all to not only move the car, bus or truck to the correct place but also to actively participate in deciding where the next student should go!
"Let's go to the beach!", "Okay!"
戸山幼稚園
It's that time of year again, and the nearest kindergarten, 戸山幼稚園, has asked if we'd display one of their posters.
Always happy to help, not just because it's a local business but also as a lot of former and future children have come from there.
Maybe englishpool should work on a poster...
Around Town
This week in our Kinder classes we are starting Unit 2 in the Happy Valley book, looking at places around town.
Although some the vocabulary may be a little difficult, it does set up the scenes for the rest of the book as we move around town to visit the beach, a restuarant, a clothes shop, a toy store etc..
